DIY Stamped Farmhouse Sign – The Craft Patch

Use rubber stamps on the wood to create a beautiful rustic sign.

I’m having fun diving into the world of rubber stamps thanks to my recent collaboration with Stampin ‘Up! Since I no longer make scrapbooks or create as many handmade cards as I used to, I have been trying to find new and fun ways to use craft stamps.

The other day I thought, “I wonder if you can stamp the wood?” so of course I tried. And it. AND. EXCEPTIONAL.

I made a farmhouse style wooden sign and I love how it turned out.

Do you want to make one too? I’ll walk you through the steps below or you can scroll to the end of this post to watch a short video of this craft.

Supplies needed

Instructions

Step 1: Attach the large magnolia flower to a clear stamp pad, load the stamp with ink, then print it directly onto the wooden sign.

Step 2: Complete the drawing with the smaller stamp of the magnolia flower. You may need to adjust the position of the stamp on the clear block so that you can stamp near the edge of the mark.

Step 3: Attach the buffalo stamp to a clear stamp pad, load the stamp with ink, then print it on the front of the word. Make sure you line up the squares when you print so that the pattern repeats correctly.

When you are done with these steps, your sign will look like this:

Step 4 (optional): I couldn’t help myself … you know how much I love color. So I applied a very light coat of green chalk paint to the word printed with the buffalo check.

I love how it has added a worn and weathered texture. If you want a sharper buffalo check pattern, paint the letter before stamping and be sure to fully load the stamp with ink. You will look completely different!

Overall, I’d say I’m a huge fan of stamping signs. I love that you don’t have to worry about cutting the paper. Have you ever added paper to a curvy word like I used in this sign? Cutting around the edges is HARD! The stamp was quick and easy. Big fan.
