A roundup of the cheapest and most convenient backrest bar stools.

When we refurbished our kitchen a few years ago, we built a counter height bench for our kitchen island. I liked it a lot at first because the kids couldn’t drag it around and it fits three kids (four if they’re really small).
However, after living with it for a few years, we realized that nobody liked to sit there. Why?Two reasons: it is uncomfortable to sit without back support and because it was a long surface, it became a place for clutter.
So, as proof, I swapped the bench for two counter-height bar stools that I already had. They go with the countertop craft table in my studio. And guess what? Now we all sit on the island and the chairs don’t collect junk!
It’s not interesting? You never know the little things that will or won’t work in your home. Glad I tried the high stools because it gave me the confidence that new stools are worth the money. But eventually I need to put those stools back in place.
That means I’ve shopped for affordable backrest bar stools and thought I’d share my favorites with you today in case you’re looking too.

I like each of these stools for different reasons and they are all more affordable. # 3 is a dead ringer for the black x-back chairs I have in my craft room and I love them. They are sturdy and comfortable.
There is a wide range of styles though, so I’m trying to decide which way to lean aesthetically. Should I go traditional? Funky? Farmhouse? It is so difficult to choose!
Which stool is your favorite? Which stools do you think I should choose for my kitchen?
